A Vision was Born
Tecnau was founded in Ivrea, Italy, by a group of former Olivetti engineers with a passion for innovation and automation. Drawing from their expertise, the company set out to design smart, easy-to-use, and reliable solutions.
1988-2000
The Early Years of Automation
In its first decade, Tecnau focused on delivering advanced automation solutions across various industries. This period laid the groundwork for its future specialization in digital printing and finishing technologies.
2000-2011
Specializing in Digital Printing
Tecnau turned its attention to digital print finishing, developing cutting-edge guillotine cutters, booklet-making systems, and punching/perforating units. These solutions addressed the evolving needs of the print industry, establishing Tecnau as a trusted partner for efficiency and reliability.
2011
A Transformative Acquisition
Tecnau acquired Lasermax Roll Systems, creating a unified organization offering comprehensive paper handling and finishing solutions. This strategic move positioned Tecnau as a global leader in digital print finishing.
2014
Innovation in Digital Book Finishing
Tecnau introduced Libra One, the first variable book-block solution capable of dynamic imposition changes. The StreamFolder solution was expanded for book production, featuring enhanced automation for fast application changes.

2018
Revolutionizing Digital Print Finishing
The Revolution 50 Series debuted, featuring high speeds up to 180 mpm/590 fpm, unmatched media flexibility, and IoT compatibility. This series set a new standard for high-speed continuous-feed printing systems.
Tecnau also introduced new solutions like the Libra SR for short-run glued book blocks and enhanced its dynamic processing lines with scoring, creasing, and perforating capabilities.
2019
Advanced Print-on-Demand Solutions
Tecnau partnered with Smyth to launch a fully integrated roll-fed sewing system for book-block production. The company also expanded its IoT capabilities, enabling real-time data collection and remote system optimization.
2020
Strengthening Connectivity and Innovation
Tecnau launched the Stack 1212, a groundbreaking cut/stack system for B2+ digital presses. The opening of the Tecnau Experience Center in Ivrea provided a space for live and virtual demonstrations, showcasing advanced feeding and finishing solutions.
2021
Expanding Horizons
Tecnau Germany was launched to strengthen its presence in Europe and provide localized support to customers. The company introduced “Spring Forward with Tecnau,” a series of live virtual events demonstrating end-to-end finishing solutions for books, catalogs, and direct mail applications.
2022
Driving Collaboration and Automation
The “Spring Forward with Tecnau” event returned, offering insights into the evolving digital print landscape. Tecnau introduced BookReady, an automated cut-sheet finishing solution for book-on-demand production. Tecnau also opened a state-of-the-art demonstration center in North Andover, MA, featuring its leading feeding and finishing solutions for continuous and sheet-fed printing.
