Over 3000 picture books to African schoolchildren
It all started during preparation for drupa 2016. Thanks to our partnership with Canon, instead of trashing the books created during our Libra 800 drupa demonstrations, Tecnau had the chance to fulfill a higher task: spread culture and promote education through the delivery of over 3000 picture books to African schoolchildren.
The translation in three languages was made by the German-based publisher Goloseo, working closely with the Room to Read literacy program, while Canon took care of printing pages and covers with Canon Océ ColorStream 6000 and Canon imagePRESS C10000VP.
Tecnau’s Libra 800, fully launched at drupa 2016 was used to bind and trim book-blocks. The solution was configured with one input channel from roll, with slit merge and web dual cutter to produce variable book-blocks automatically delivered to the binder, where covers were fed, side trimmed, front cut and scored according to the book block size. After staging on conveyor tables and on a cooling tower, the books were transferred to the Libra VT, Variable Three-Knife Trimmer, to be cut to finished size.
“We are proud to have been part of this project, and we hope we can again in future eliminate waste from print samples at trade shows while doing good helping people,” said Maurizio Gianetto, Marketing Manager at Tecnau.
